Reach your Goals this Year!

“Reach your Goals this Year!”

Today, I’d like to wish everyone a Happy Birthday! The reason I want to talk about birthdays today is that it’s an event that we all pursue or we use to mark time in our lives.

And the thing that I think is important about birthdays is, this is a length of time, a period of time where you can actually achieve fairly significant things. But the question is, what have you done in the last year? The time will pass,  What have you done with that time?

What are your goals this year?

What I’d like you to think about is in the next, one month, three months, six months, or 12 months, what are going to be the things you accomplish? The thing I like about the year timeframe, it is long enough for you to actually achieve significant things, but it’s not so long that you are demotivated.

What I would like to do is put a stake in the ground so to speak, put a marker on your calendar that a year from now you will accomplish.

Set long-term and short-term goals:

Will you read a new book, journal on a daily basis, make fitness goals, make nutrition goals, make work environment goals, or do the things that you need to do and make the choices that are important to you to get your burnout handled?

The best way to pursue that is to say if you want to lose 25 pounds in the next year, then you’re going to lose two pounds a month, which means you’re going to lose a fraction of a pound per day over that course of that month. Really that would be the equivalent of probably several 100 calories which is a pretty easy ask but over the course of a year.

Again it’s like a rolling boulder. It gets faster and faster, and you’ll have more success. It’s very incremental. These are all habit building. We’re talking about goal setting, but mostly I just want to wish you happy birthday and think about what you are going to accomplish in the next year.
