How to Prioritize your Goals!

“Most of us spend too much time on what is urgent and not enough time on what is important.”
― Stephen R. Covey

One of the things that stirs up a lot of anxiety in people is having a gigantic list of things to do, many tasks, or many responsibilities. They don’t know which one to start with or how to move forward and that stirs up a lot of angst which equals a lot of anxiety.

I think once you have delineated what are the priorities for you and what are their priorities for your life, your work, the things that need to be done, then it’s very simple, then it’s just the doing. But I think it’s that lack of prioritization that sometimes is problematic for people.

I like to think of the way to help prioritize things for people as:

What are the things that you have found throughout your life that move the needle for you?

What are the things that are very impactful?

For example, I know for me, SLEEP is a giant one. I used to say, “I’ll sleep when I’m dead.”  Now I know that at least 7-8  hours of sleep is critical for me. That’s one of the things that will move the needle for me. And I prioritize that really throughout the rest of my life.

Family:

In general, if you prioritize family, if you prioritize those types of things, then you need to make sure that you’re following through and your actions match your prioritization. If  you say family is a priority, but your home once every two weeks for a meal with your family, then you may need to realign things so your priorities match what you feel they are and how you can best go about your life.

Just say no if it’s not your priority!

Once you have your priorities clear, then it’s much easier to say yes, no, maybe or I’m not going to participate in those activities. It’s very simple to just say no. If that’s not a priority for you, you just move on.

Hopefully that’s helpful!

Personal Priorities:

Prioritize for yourself, prioritize your life, prioritize for really everything that you do. That way it’ll be very simple, very impactful, and useful for you. I really will help control your burnout.

And again, remember burnout recovery is for you!
