Tips From The OR: Sleep!
Tips From The OR:
Sleep!
Clearly we want to have excellent sleep, consistently, for many reasons but especially when it comes to the operating room. Although we strive for it, we know sometimes that achieving it is not always the case.
If you are in the medical world, I am sure you can relate to this and have experienced those moments of needing to be up and ready for an unplanned emergency surgery. Without good sleep often, you may notice you are becoming more susceptible to burnout.
How is sleep important?
I don’t think important is the right word to use here, I would say getting good quality sleep is critical because if you are getting good sleep then you will automatically be starting your day much better.
ALSO sleep is the only activity that allows the brain to signal its lymphs to drain out and flush waste from the brain.. Again this only occurs during sleep!
If you are limiting your sleep….
You are limiting your brains ability to recover. And this applies to your whole body as well. Rest and sleep is a critical rebuilding time for you and your body in general. So make sure you are priortizing sleep every single day.
