Anticipation in the OR

The OR

As a urologist, burnout specialist and an expert in helping people recover from burnout, you maybe wondering what does the OR (operating room) have to do with it managing burnout?

Well, I believe the OR has been a significant area throughout my life where I have learned a lot about not only good patient care and recovery but burnout recovery.

Anticipation

I believe anticipation in the operating room has been critical in foreseeing all the possibilities or eventualities that may occur and to be prepared for it.  We anticipate a lot in patient care so patients continue to heal in the right direction, can this antipation be used for something else as well?.

Absolutely! From a burnout recovery standpoint, it is relevant because you are preparing for the worst while hoping for the best. I called this pessimistic optimism. So are quite literally anticipating the changes and the outcomes from those changes as you take steps towards recovering from burnout.

However, there is no quick fix

It is important to remember this while leaning in and connecting with people who have experienced the same situations as you, you will be able to learn a lot and gain perspective. Anticipation is good because it will always keep you moving forward. (Plan A didnt work so now I will try plan B, C and D). Anticipation will keep your wheels turning and moving forward! It is important to always keep going!
